Like many people I shared a great period during my early research career with what I consider a great friend and colleague. After loosing regular contact with Dale following our families move to south East it has come as a shock to learn today of Dales passing. Like many I had assumed Dale would still be out in field come spring chasing down the sleepier. Dale and I spent many field trips together across SA. A real highlight in my life was when Dale travelled across Australia to visit me in my beloved Kimberley. I'm so glad he did as we shared a real special time which I will always look back on fondly. Dale was perhaps the funniest sly witted gentleman I know. Everyone I ever introduced dale to was blown away by his politeness and outgoing personality. I will always remember that image of dale going bush in the Hq and who could forget his number plates. Certainly dale was a gentleman and a scholar with such a vast range of topics on which he was extremely knowledgeable. Next time I am El Questo station Dale you will be in my thoughts. Wider still everytime I see a sleepy crossing the roads. Rest in peace mate. Dr Phil Mayes

Hello Nyasha, we met at your family home when you and your brothers were in early uni. Dale would be shocked to hear you are old enough to marry! I'm sorry you couldn't have said good-bye at the funeral and he would have been delighted to hear from you but don't feel a loss. He spoke of good times he had with 'Greg's kids', taking you to the field and especially listening to you play the piano at home. It sounds as though the times you had were special. If you would like to know more about anything if you friend me through facebook - Wendy Hayward. I can send my email in a message or the home phone number is still the same. Thank you for posting. I often say how wonderful it is that he had such an impact on people. So many from the past (and present) have made contact and each was important to him.
